March ride
Sunday
Morning Ramble w/Dale & Eric Bostic and Joy & Dave Elzey There were 6 bikes, 3 tandems and 3 singles for a ride
of approximately 25 miles. We made 2 short stops, one @ McDonalds and a quickie @ Milburns Orchard, which
hadn't opened up yet. The weather was clear and cold, and everyone seemed to have a good ride.

April Ride
On Sunday, April 5, Team Bostic
and Team Elzey minus one led a 32 mile ride of four tandems and thirteen singles. We rode from Peoples' Plaza to
the C&D
Canal, Vets' Cemetery, St. George's,
Delaware City, and then back to Safeway for a Toucan lunch meeting, although
some of the singles also joined us. During the ride, we had two flat tire seminars, "taught" by Bob Wheeler at the cemetery
and then by Pat Lavery and Eric Bostic on Porter Rode a couple of miles from the end. As per Bostic/Elzey ride requirements,
we encountered a head wind coming out of Delaware City. (All rides need at least one leg with head winds!!) It was great fun
to have so many riders out for a good day's enjoyment. Submitted by Dale &
Eric Bostic.
EASTERN TANDEM RALLY
SPRING THAW
Denise and I (along with Dale
and Eric, and Dave and Joy) attended the joint Spring Thaw Eastern Tandem Rally and Potomac Pedalers Touring Group Saint Michaels
Weekend from April 16-19. It was a great ride with about 280 participants including
about 100 tandem teams. The weather was great all 4 days sandwiched in between
rain on April 15 and April 20.
Denise and I have ridden in Saint Michaels many times, but we were surprised how many new nearby locations we saw for
the first time. On Thursday we took the ferry to Oxford and proceeded to Jamaica Point for
a nice view of the Chesapeake.
On Friday we drove to the Blackwater Preserve where we cycled to Hoopers
Island which had spectacular water views as we crossed the causeways. We were treated to crabcake sandwiches at Old Salty’s restaurant. Saturday was the busiest day as we visited Pickering Creek Audubon Center,
the Halcyon Mansion (right on the Chesapeake) and the Jean Ellen du Pont Sheehan Audubon Sanctuary. We also had a delicious lunch provided by Sam’s Pizza.
On Saturday evening we had a
nice catered dinner followed by presentations by Mel Kornblugh of Tandems East and Larry Black of Mt. Airy Bicycles. We saw examples of the latest equipment such as a bamboo tandem, Magnesium Tandem,
and a timing crank setup that used a belt instead of a chain.
All in all it was a great event. Submitted by Norman Shurak
